Supervisors
Steven Galipeau, M. A., M. Div., MFT, Executive Director (Calabasas)
Steve was licensed as a therapist in 1975, and began offering supervision at Coldwater Counseling Center in 1983 when he started serving as Executive Director. He was certified as a Jungian analyst in 1993. Steve is a frequent public lecturer, and teaches and supervises in the Analyst Training Program at the C. G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. He is the author of Transforming Body and Soul: Therapeutic Wisdom in the Gospel Healing Stories, The Journey of Luke Skywalker: An Analysis of Modern Myth and Symbol, and several professional papers related to the practice of analytical psychology.
Tia Galipeau, M. A., MFT, Clinic Director (Woodland Hills)
Tia began working as an occupational therapist in the 1970’s with psychotic patients and disturbed adolescents in a community mental health setting. She has been in private practice since receiving her MFT License in 1980 and was certified as a Jungian Analyst in 1997. Tia has been on the staff of Coldwater Counseling Center since 1984 and Clinic Director since 1998. She is also on the faculty of the C. G. Jung Institute where she has taught and facilitated year-long study programs for licensed professionals in Analytical Psychology. Her areas of interest include dream interpretation, the use of sand play and other creative mediums, women’s issues, and transference/countertransference in analytical practice. She is also a Certified Child Analyst.
Karen Lipsky, M. A., MFT, Intake Coordinator (West Los Angeles)
Karen is an Advanced Candidate in the Analyst Training Program of the C. G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles and is in private practice in West Los Angeles. She founded and co-coordinated the Child Abuse Treatment Program at the Julia Ann Singer Center at Vista Del Mar. In private practice since 1983 Karen specializes in working with eating disorders and with survivors of severe trauma, abuse or physical illness. She holds two teaching credentials.
Joyce Burt, M. A., MFT (Westwood)
Joyce has been doing private consultation since the late 1980’s. She joined the staff of Coldwater Counseling Center in 1988 as an MFT intern and became licensed in 1995. Sand play therapy has been a vital part of her work with both children and adults as influenced by the Dora Kalff tradition. She has published articles in Sandplay: Coming of Age, an anthology, and given lectures and workshops in sand play as an effective modality for accessing the unconscious. Joyce was certified as a Jungian Analyst in 2005. Joyce is also a Certified Child Analyst.
Deborah Howell, M. A., MFT (Beverly Hills)
Deborah graduated from Pacifica Graduate Institute with an MA in Depth Psychology. She started as an intern at Coldwater Counseling Center in 1990 and has been on staff ever since. Deborah was licensed as an MFT in 1996 and then served as Intake Coordinator from 1997-2000. Deborah maintains her private practice in Beverly Hills where she sees individuals and couples. She was certified as a Jungian Analyst by the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles in the summer of 2006.
Margreth Knirsch, Ph.D., MFT, (Studio City)
Margreth is a Jungian-oriented therapist, who uses sand play, art therapy and other spiritual tools to help with life transitions, relationship and cross cultural issues. She began as an intern at Coldwater Counseling Center in 1995, was licensed as an MFT in 2000, and became the Counseling Center’s Intake Coordinator later that year. Margreth has been in private practice since 2002, also served as a supervisor at the Center for Individual and Family Counseling in North Hollywood from 2002 to 2005. For over twenty-five years Margreth has worked in the human resources field all over the world, teaching communications/conflict resolution in a variety of cultural settings. She is also a Certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor.
Barney Prentice, M. D. (Santa Monica)
Barney is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry Neurology, with special expertise in Neurology. He joined the staff of Coldwater Counseling Center in 1991 in order to gain experience in the practice of Jungian psychology and the work of psychotherapy in conjunction with his neurology practice. Later Barney interned at the C. G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles to gain further experience and was subsequently admitted to the analyst training program. Barney was certified as a Jungian analyst in 2004.
Therapists
Naomi Baker is completing her Masters Degree at Pacifica Graduate Institute and joins the staff of Coldwater Counseling Center after working with children through the Outreach Concern Program and seeing adults through the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center.
Rita Bazeley, M. A., MFT Rita received her Masters Degree from Pacific Graduate Institute and has attended the Analytic Psychology: Theory and Practice program at the C. G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. Rita has a long time passion for depth psychology and also has an extensive background in interior design. Our office spaces have greatly benefited from her expert attention.
Peggy Caton, Psy.D., Ph.D. Peggy recieved her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ryokan College and also has a Ph.D. in music from UCLA. She is currently Clinical Director of Intercare Therapy, Inc. in Los Angeles, a private agency for children with developmental disabilities. Peggy has done extensive post-graduate education including two years in the Analytical Psychology: Theory and Practice program at the C. G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles
and two years in the psychoanalytic psychotherapy program at the Psychoanalytic Center of California.
Jemma Elliot,
M. A. Jemma received her Masters
Degree from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Deeply affected by the events September 11, 2001 while living in New York at the time,
she did her thesis on “Addressing the Needs of Soul and Psyche in the Aftermath
of Collective Trauma.” She has worked
previously at Counseling West in Sherman Oaks and at the Valley Trauma
Center in Van Nuys and
Santa Clarita.
Nathalie Fine, M. A., MFT Nathalie received her Masters Degree from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Though she received her undergraduate degree in psychology, she began a career in the fashion industry, before numerous inner and outer experiences led her towards Jungian psychology and a career path directly related to working with the psyche. She also works at Open Paths Counseling Center in Culver City and the TEENLINE hotline sponsored by Cedars-Sinai.
Nancy Hinman, M. A. Nancy received her Masters Degree from Pepperdine University. Her background also includes theatre arts, business, and massage therapy. Nancy is enrolled currently in the Doctoral Program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Depth Psychology.
Corey Hooper, M. A., MFT Corey is a recently licensed MFT who received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She has been actively pursuing studies in depth psychology for the past eight years.
Marci Loftin, M. A. Marci received her Masters Degree from Pacifica Graduate Institute and has worked previously at Southern California Counseling Center. Before joining Coldwater Marci practiced in the architecture field and received a Bachelor of Arts in cinema. Marci’s therapeutic work is informed by the psychology of Carl Jung and linking psychological theory to lived experience.
Linda Qasabian M. S. Linda received her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Northridge. Since 2008 she has also been working as a therapist with the Glendale YWCA Domestic Violence Project.
Julie Rodriguez, M. A. Julie received her Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University where she became very interested in depth psychology. Julie has worked with children and families in the private nonprofit sector for the past ten years.
Laura Smith, M. A., MFT Laura received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of Santa Monica and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Depth Psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She has previously work for over five hears at the Center for Individual and Family Counseling. Her private practice is in Sherman Oaks.
Sabrina Somani, M. A. Sabrina received her
Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University
and continues to work there towards her Educational Doctorate Degree in
Counseling Psychology. She has
previously served numerous agencies devoted to child and family services in her
native Canada, and is now
also currently working in a private practice internship in West
Los Angeles and in Encino.
Lisa Weiner, M. A., MFT Lisa received her Masters Degree from Antioch University and was licensed as a Marraige and Family Therapists in 2010. Her background also includes theatre arts and community psychology. She is currently in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Tim Whetzel, M. A., MFT Tim is a licensed MFT who began at Coldwater Counseling Center as an MFT intern. He has also had a career in banking. Tim is a certified MFT supervisor and is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute and working on his dissertation. His private practice is in Sherman Oaks.
Hillary Wright, M.Div. Hillary received her M.Div. from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA and is completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Hillary has previously worked for several years as a chaplain in both hospital and hospice settings and more recently has work at various clinical settings including one year as a psychology intern at the C. G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. She is currently a Psychological Assistant working with Susan Frankel, Ph.D.
